The term broadband refers to a telecommunications signal of greater bandwidth, in some sense, than another standard or usual signal (and the broader the band, the greater the capacity for traffic). Different criteria for "broad" have been applied in different contexts and at different times. Its origin is in radio systems engineering, but became popularized after MediaOne adopted it as part of a marketing campaign in 1996 to sell their high speed data access. The slogan was "This is Broadband. This is the Way". Until today, the term has never been formally defined, even though it is used widely and has been the subject of many policy debates, and the FCC "National Broadband Plan". From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Broadband" What is the difference between Mobile broadband and Wi-fi? Q. What is the difference between Mobile broadband and Wi-fi? I understand that Wi-fi is accessed free from certain locations, coffee shops, shopping centers etc. So what is the advantage of mobile broadband? Asked by BlueTuna - Mon Dec 14 16:53:35 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Wifi refers to an Internet connection over a short distance radio signal put out by a wireless router or access point. This is what you normally find in your home. Other then the cost of having the Cable or DSL Internet brought to your house, you do not pay anything more for it. You produce the signal with your own router. It has a range of about 150 feet. This is used in coffee shops and malls because of its short range. It forces you to come into the shop to use it (and maybe you will buy something). Mobile Broadband runs on the cell phone network. Anywhere your cell phone works, so will your Internet. And just like you can get into your car and drive across the country and your cell phone will continue to work by switching from… [cont.] Answered by dewcoons - Mon Dec 14 17:06:39 2009 What is the best mobile broadband provider? Sprint Which one is best depends on what you'll primarily be using it for. Verizon ranks excellently in customer service and reliability according to J.D. Power and Associates, while AT&T ranks average and Sprint is below average. For Speed, a recent article shows that AT&T may be the fastest right now (and definitely will be by the end of the year) with 7.2 Mbps download speed. That's about faster than what you'd get with some cable providers like Comcast and Time Warner. Verizon ranks second while Sprint ranks third as it's network is a mixture of fast and somewhat fast speeds (EVDO Revision A and 0). In the coverage department, Sprint has everyone beat with the… [cont.] Answered by Mobile Broadband Tipster - Thu Oct 9 21:54:26 2008 What broadband connections are available in Whitefield Bangalore?
